Portland Kitchen Grows Up

Portland Penthouse

This project started with the developers’ floor plans and allowed the client and I to dictate the overall look. Though a very modern and eco-friendly building design, we didn’t want the home to feel cold or too modern. It needed to be warm and inviting the moment you entered and take advantage of the incredible views of the ocean and city. 

From the finishes and custom work I designed, to all lighting, tille and flooring, we chose every item for this home. The mix of steel, leathers, walnut accents and furnishings, and great textures and fabrics, the home is as impressive in feel as the view out the deck.

Jacobs Condo Do-Over

Lakehouse in Maine

My clients purchased this lakefront home in the fall and enlisted RDI to redecorate the entire home from the previous owners’ very traditional style. The bones of the home were already impressive and we knew we had to enhance the amazing views of the lake that the property had.

They wanted a more sophisticated feel but also wanted to keep it somewhat casual.  It needed to handle lots of gatherings and their three active teenagers as well as stand the test of time. We also needed to complement the amazing architecture. There was a request to add a home office for the couple to work from home on occasion and finish the lower level family room to include a pool table and builtin bar with a mandatory wine fridge and ice maker.

Since the clients lived in another state, much of the planning and decisions were done via email and digital ideaboards.. The clients were very generous in allowing us to take the reigns in the overall design and options chosen with only a few joint decisions. The final reveal was jaw dropping and a few tears of gratitude were shed. Truly a beautiful home for many generations to come.

Lakehouse  in Maine

Norway Duplex

Clients purchased a 100-year-old farmhouse/ Duplex on their town’s Main Street that needed some major repairs and updates. The plan was to make it liveable and inviting for their out of town guests to stay in as hotels are few and not close by. The building hadn’t been touched in over 50 years and had last been owned by hoarders. The entire interior of the structure was demo’d and redone.

After removing ceilings and walls, electrical and plumbing, gutting each unit’s kitchens and baths, we put her back together. Top floor unit has 2 bedrooms and 1 bath, while the 1st floor unit has 1 bedroom with a pull-out sofa.  Even though guests would be staying for sort periods of time, we wanted these places to feel like home and be comfortable, be self contained and have everything they would need, including everything to cook with. Both units were furnished and decorated as shown.

This project started in early December 2017 and was completed mid-March 2018, so only about 3-1/2 months. The transformation is amazing and their guests will be delighted to spend a few very comfortable nights here while visiting.

The Cliff Cabin

Bachelor Pad Urban Condo Staging in Portland ME

Newly built in 2015, the owner of this 3/2.5 condo was listing  to move to another project. The potential buyers are looking for high-end, but urban living so the home needed to show the potential.

Bayhouse Condo Portland Maine

This was a newly-built luxury condo in the heart of the Old Port of Portland, Maine and was purchased by NYC dwellers as their future retirement home. It lacked some distinctive features that we added in, namely crown-molding throughout, ceiling and wall light fixtures, including recessed, fans and pendants, specific paint colors, furnishings and soft goods, a tiled kitchen back-splash and most importantly, a built-in home bar!

I’ve always dreamed of having a clean, modernist home, and I’m happy to say that Alice and her team at Atelier Cohen led the way to making that dream a reality! I couldn’t be more happy with the project, my house looks like it could be featured in a Kinfolk magazine.
